About the Director of Intervention Role: 

The Director of Intervention is a new role at KIPP Colorado and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, program development, and operational oversight for KIPP Colorado’s literacy intervention programs. The Director of Intervention will coach and support school instruction leadership and school literacy interventionists in developing and leading strong Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) plans particularly in literacy intervention programs while ensuring all students are afforded access to instruction in Tier 1. The Director of Intervention will lead the development and coaching (side by side with school based Assistant Principals) of school based literacy interventionists grades K-12. This position will be a key member of KIPP Colorado’s leadership team. This position reports to the Senior Director of Special Services.

Professional Responsibilities 

  • Believe deeply in the mission, values, and Race, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (RIDE) commitments of KIPP Colorado Schools and that all children can and will learn 
  • Assume personal responsibility for student achievement 
  • Read, internalize, and adhere to the KIPP Colorado Policies and Procedures manual and guidelines
  • Provide an active presence, strategic supervision, and intentional monitoring to ensure student safety and engagement in rigorous learning (regardless of my role and its proximity to students)
  • Take ownership for the development of your craft (meet 1x/1-2 weeks with a manager, implement feedback, engage in active practice, etc.)
  • Commit to being prepared. Such as: internalizing and preparing for lessons; preparing for O3s/coaching, preparing for meetings, coaching, PD, etc. 
  • Meet professional obligations including and not limited to meeting deadlines and honoring schedules 
  • Consistently leverage existing professional tools, including but not limited to Google Suite (google documents, etc.) and Microsoft Suite (including but not limited to your KIPP Colorado email, Teams chat / meetings, Teams phone, and Microsoft outlook) 
  • Maintain strong attendance each day and be on time to all responsibilities
  • Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement 
  • Reflect on professional practices to meet individual professional development goals 
  • Actively participate in professional development, grade level, and department meetings
  • Actively engage and implement in all school-wide and Org wide professional development
  • Serve as a positive, contributing member of a grade team or functional team, collaborating with colleagues to tackle common challenges and implement org and grade-wide initiatives
  • Share candid, solutions-oriented feedback with peers and leadership on a regular basis, assuring that feedback is shared directly with the intended recipient. Ensure that feedback is focused on improving outcomes and experiences for students
  • Assist with both student and staff recruitment and engagement- including events, home visits, calls home, and other determined and related requirements
  • Know that you role, professional development, org wide meetings, etc. may require you to travel around Denver to other KIPP Campuses, our Home Office, or other KIPP or PD events 
  • Assist with other duties as assigned (such as but not limited to, lunch duty, arrival/dismissal duty, bathroom duty, school support duties, etc.) 
 

 Intervention Program Development

  • Owns the development of the battery of literacy Diagnostic Assessments across Tier 2 and Tier 3
  • Develops the vision for Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention processes using specific programs and/or curricula for closing literacy gaps 
  • Leads the launch of school wide literacy needs assessments at KIPP Colorado Schools 
  • Assists the Senior Director of Special Services in the evaluation of ongoing intervention programs and makes recommendations for improvement
 

Tiered Learning Leadership

  • Leads execution of the Tier 2 Literacy Intervention Vision and scope and sequence of the development of literacy interventionists 
  • Partners with Literacy Interventionists to work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, fluency, and comprehension strategies
  • Leads execution of the network’s MTSS vision and coaches literacy interventionists, assistant principal’s of special services and special education teachers on participating in the MTSS process in response to ReadAct and other literacy needs
  • Conducts regular observations of Tier 1,2,3 classrooms to evaluate for equitable access in all classrooms
 

Intervention Compliance and Oversight 

  • Serves as the network lead for ReadAct Compliance. Work with the HR Team on the oversight of completion and tracking. 
  • Leads iReady implementation, training, data analysis, and response to data
  • Manages placement of students based on Diagnostic Assessments and progress monitoring cycles  
  • Supports response to data for Tier 1 Universal Screeners in reading and math.
  • Monitors literacy intervention programming progress quarterly in conjunction with the Senior Director of Special Services and the Managing DIrector of Academics and Teacher Development 
  • Reports student progress to stakeholders regularly including literacy interventionists, school personnel, and the Home Office Team 
 

Role Level Specifics, Scope of Work, and Level of Responsibility

About a Successful Candidate 

About the skills and qualifications you will bring to this role: 

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Spanish bilingual (preferred)
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant and aligned experience in Intervention (required)
  • At least 5 years of Lead Teaching experience and/or a strong record of helping underserved students achieve academic success (required) 
  • Possess additional education and/or credentials in best practices for providing intervention to students. This can be a Master’s Degree in Reading, special education certification/training, experience as Reading Specialist or Reading Interventionist, etc (strongly preferred)
  • Past experience (2 years) of leading adults in a school environment (required) 
  • State Training in the Science of Reading is required (or within 90 days of start date)
  • At least 2+ years having led successful ReadAct campaigns for students and families (highly preferred) 
  • SpEd or ELA-E/CLDE certification (preferred)
  • A full understanding and Commitment to an Exceptional Student Experience (more about that HERE) (required) 
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Market Salary: Starting salary for this role begins at $91,800 and is commensurate with experience
